Sun City - North-West Province

Sun City opened in 1979 offering a hotel and golf course designed by South African golfer Gary Player. Due to the hotel being situated in the homeland of Bophuthatswana where gambling was legalised the resort became a huge success. Now that gaming is now legal across South Africa the resort is redefining itself as an international leisure, entertainment and conference destination. This resort may not appeal to everyone but it is still worth a visit to experience the sheer indulgence on offer.

The most iconic building here is the “Palace of the Lost City” which is a hotel decorated magnificently with mosaics, hand painted ceilings, animal sculptures and frescoes. The hotel is surrounded by 62 acres of man-made forest with up to 1.6 million plants.

Fun can be had at the Valley of the Waves which is set in an arid bush landscape comprising a sandy beach with palm trees and a wave machine. The resort is really geared up for sporting activities and you can play golf, squash, tennis go horseback riding, and go mountain biking or ten-pin bowling. At Waterworld there is a whole host of water sports including windsurfing, sailing, canoeing, jet-skiing, parasailing and water-skiing.
