Franschhoek is truly the heart of the Cape Winelands lying between wonderful mountain scenery. The whole area is a haven for vineyards which you will see covering the lower slopes of the mountains. Franschhoek is located just 45 minutes from Cape Town and is an ideal place from which to base yourself and explore this area. The main high street in Franschhoek has something for everyone with restaurants, art galleries, local craft shops, book shops, coffee shops and even a chocolate factory! The area is full of history and cultural heritage dating back many hundreds of years to when the Huguenots arrived here after fleeing their homeland in France. At one end of the main street in Franschhoek you can see the Huguenot Monument recognising this important event.  

As you tour around Franschhoek you cant help but notice the lovely Cape Dutch style homes and that a lot of the winefarms in the area are still called by their original french names. Its worth visiting the winefarms and taking in the tours which all offer something unique. Of course tasting is a key part of any tour and a great learning experience.  

Things to do in Franschhoek:
