Hermanus Accommodation

Situated just 120km from Cape Town and at the heart of the Whale Route is Hermanus. This pretty town which grew up from a rustic fisherman’s village attracts visitors from all over the world. If you are looking for Hermanus Accommodation just click on the link above.

The World Wildlife Fund has voted Hermanus one of the top twelve whale watching sites where you can view whales from the cliff paths or from a boat if you want to get even closer. You can see whales spy-hopping, breaching and lob-tailing and will provide great photos for your friends back home.  The best time to see these Southern Right whales is from June to December each year. Hermanus even has its very own Whale Crier who blows his Kelp Horn to inform you when whales are about!

People flock to Hermanus to enjoy its charm and atmosphere and is considered to be one of the places to live. Many artists have located themselves in Hermanus and advertise their paintings in the local galleries for you to peruse at your leisure. At the busy Lemm’s Corner Craft Market you can see the excellent jewellery, pottery and local crafts for sale.

For the energetic ones among you there are fabulous scenic mountain trails, scuba diving, sailing, board sailing, kayaking on the river or sea, deep sea fishing and even Great White shark viewing. For the nature lovers there is the wonderful Fernkloof Nature Reserve with over 1,100 different species of Fynbos to see. Perhaps you would like to go bird-watching along the Klein River, Bot River or Onrus River estuaries. The mountains that overlook Hermanus provide great hang-gliding and paragliding – imagine flying over this beautiful location.

Hermanus may no longer be a village, but the character and atmosphere of this vibrant town offers a lifestyle few places can match. There is plenty of lovely places to stay and appreciate this wonderful location.

There is a fabulous 10km cliff-path walk that you can join from many points in Hermanus which winds its way past the excellent Kwaaiwater, Langbaai, Voelkip and Grotto beaches. Hermanus city centre is easy to walk around and explore but does become quite crowded during the school holidays (December and January) and during the Hermanus Whale Festival in September.

Hermanus can be reached via the N2 freeway but if you have a bit more time then why not take the more scenic coastal R44 route. This fabulous coastal route provides some stunning views and skirts the famous Kogelberg Biosphere.
