Knysna Accommodation

Knysna

One of the most popular stops along the Garden Route is Knysna with its dramatic Knysna Heads, the lagoon and the lovely Knysna Quays. The accommodation in Knysna is of a high quality with many delightful guest houses, bed and breakfast establishments and self catering venues to choose from. This lagoon-side town is famous for its seafood and in particular the oysters which are cultivated in the lagoon itself.

The rocky head that leads into Knysna and the lagoon is known as Knysna Heads and is well worth exploring offering some spectacular scenary, views and photographic opportunities. If you are into scuba diving them there are some great places to explore here too. Stop off at Knysna Quays and enjoy this wonderful waterfront complex which is like a mini version of the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. There is a range of clothes shops, arts and crafts and restaurants. Why not try a cruise across the lagoon to the Knysna Heads with the Knysna Featherbed Company who run a number of trips each day leaving from the Knysna Quays across to The Heads. The shortest trip they do lasts approximately 75mins and costs approximately R100. They also do a sunset cruise which lasts 2 hours and 30mins and for R590 includes food and wine. Bookings can be made at the kiosk on the north side of Knysna Quays.

The Knysna National Lakes here are over 37000 acres in size and can be explored by kayak. There are two popular and challenging golf courses in Knysna - the Knysna Golf Club which is built on the edge of the Estuary and the Pezula Chamionship Course which is situated on the cliff tops of the eastern Head and is a stunning scenic course.

For the adventurous among you why not try abseiling down the 50m cliff at Featherbed Nature Reserve or go quad-biking on the Featherbed Trail. Contact SEAL Adventures on Tel: 044 381 0068). You can also try kayaking in the Knysna Lagoon or perhaps a more adventurous deep sea kayaking trip.

Another attraction close to Knysna is the Garden of Eden where you can walk through lush forests and experience a real natural environment. The Garden of Eden is well signposted and only charges a small entrance fee.

For all the family why not visit the Knysna Elephant Park where you can see these well cared for elephants and even take a ride on one.
