Game Reserve Accommodation in Balule Reserve

Average guest rating: Not Yet Rated

Our magnificent Limpopo Game Reserve accommodation is situated in Balule Reserve, a 40,000 ha reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park, is built on the banks of the Olifants River, which provides many opportunities for game viewing even while in camp ... watch families of elephants who have come down to bathe, lazy hippos surfacing for a yawn, a skittish herd of impala drinking nervously ... and listen for the cry of a fish eagle.

At Singwe River Lodge we provide a memorable and affordable Big Five game experience in a low-risk malaria area, with excellent accommodation, delicious food and warm African hospitality.

Shaded by giant fig trees, the beautiful, tranquil camp has accommodation for up to 12 adults in a Manor House and three thatched riverside chalets, a large swimming pool and rolling lawns which extend down to the banks of the river. If the weather permits dinner is often served in the African Boma under the night sky around a campfire. Alternatively it is served in the restaurant. Children are welcome and a child-minding service is available if parents wish to dine alone or go on a game drive.

Singwe Game Lodge Accommodation in Limpopo is easily accessed with daily flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban to three international airports close by. The nearest, Eastgate International Airport at Hoedspruit, is about 37 km from Singwe. We provide road transfers from the airport to the lodge, as well as from Nelspruit, Phalaborwa and OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesbur.

Singwe River Lodge offers accommodation in the Manor House with three luxury suites, and three one-roomed riverside thatched chalets. We provide fully catered holidays with delicious English and Continental breakfasts, a light lunch and gourmet dinner served in the restaurant or, weather permitting, in the African Boma around a campfire. Private dinners for couples celebrating a special occasion can be arranged in the Manor House dining room on request. Guests also have the option of booking the entire camp and enjoying a self-catering holiday with a difference - our staff will prepare delicious meals for you with your own provisions, serve them to you and clean up afterwards!

SPA TREATMENTS - massages, facials and other treatments can be arranged with a local therapist in your suite, on the lawn under a shady tree or on the riverbank. These treatments are not included in the rates and will be charged to your account.

Guest wishing to explore the local area can do so in their own vehicle or we will arrange transport for your account. Lodge staff will assist guests to arrange and book any of the excursions below:

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK: Singwe Lodge lies within the Kruger National Park and guests can visit one of the famous Kruger lodges. The closest gates are Phalaborwa and Orpen Gates. Phalaborwa Gate is accessed from the town of Phalaborwa, home of the famous African marula tree and Amarula Cream Liqueur. Orpen Main Rest Camp serves as an entrance gate to the central region of the Kruger National Park and is close to the Rabelais Dam which attracts cheetah, lion and leopard.

HANS MERENSKY GOLF COURSE: Play golf in a unique bushveld atmosphere - this world famous golf course is just 55 km from Singwe on the border of the Kruger National Park, and is home to a variety of game and over 200 species of birds. The 18-hole Bob Grimsdell designed par 72 championship golf course has been voted the best walking course in the country and visitors are welcome to play any day of the week. Transfers are available at a nominal charge from the lodge to the golf course.

THE GRIETJIE VULTURE RESTAURANT: This fascinating 'restaurant' feeds endangered vultures with carcasses which are put out on a Friday morning - by noon the vultures are normally feeding! This is a new project and the vultures are sometimes hesitant but your patience can be very rewarding. An entrance fee of R30 per person goes towards paying for the carcasses.

MOHOLOHOLO WILDLIFE REHABILITATION CENTRE: The centre contributes to the conservation of endangered species and the rehabilitation of injured and poisoned wildlife, while undertaking a hugely successful breeding programme for the rare serval. Over 150 of these cats have been bred and released back into areas where they have previously become extinct. This unique conservancy is home to, amongst others, three abandoned lions from an Egyptian circus, numerous injured raptors and poisoned vultures.

THE HOEDSPRUIT ENDANGERED SPECIES CENTRE: The centre focuses on the conservation of rare, vulnerable or endangered animals, particularly cheetah. Day visitors will view an introductory presentation and then enjoy a tour of the centre in an open safari vehicles with experienced guides, moving between the various enclosures to see cheetah, wild dog, lions, the black-footed cat, African wild cat, ground hornbills, sable antelope and much more. A fantastic experience is to witness a feeding session of rare African vultures, or go on an elephant-back safari in the early morning or late afternoon on a Camp Jabulani elephant, renowned for their beautiful temperaments and outstanding physical condition.

THE BLYDE RIVER CANYON: Recently renamed the Motlatse, the Blyde River Canyon is the third deepest in the world and one of the most spectacular sights in Africa. The entire canyon extends over 250 km in length, and includes 25,000 ha of rich vegetation and birdlife. The Canyon starts at Bourke's Luck Potholes and ends at the Three Rondavels. A public road runs along the long western boundary and there is easy access to scenic vantage points such as The Pinnacle, the Three Rondavels and the magnificent God's Window, so called because of the panoramic view of the Lowveld more than 900 m down into lush indigenous forest-clad ravine. The majestic cliffs plunge over 700 m to the Lowveld. The canyon boasts numerous walks, hikes, horse and mountain bike trails which will lead you through an area inhabited by various species of antelope, wild cat and birds including the eagle, ibis, parrot and Loerie, interesting rock formations and magical waterfalls.

HOT AIR BALLOON SAFARIS: Take a hot air balloon safari over lodges and game reserves within the Greater Kruger National Park in an eight-storey high hot air balloon. You will be airborne in time to see a glorious Lowveld sunrise then drift gently over the landscape for an hour before your pilot selects a suitable landing site where the retrieve crew will be waiting with bubbly!

MICROLIGHTING: Book a tandem flight with an experienced microlight pilot to do some game viewing from the air or, for an exhilarating experience, fly over the magnificent Blyde River Canyon. Or take a lesson and be in control from the start! Flights vary in length from 15 to 45 minutes.
