With the wonders of the African bush awaiting those who dare to find them, we invite you to join us at Shelanti. Shelanti, the place of many returns and enduring memories, gives you the chance to escape from the busy city life and experience a piece of Africa. Shelanti can be found in the heart of the bushveld where summers are green and the bush is bursting with young life while the winters offer a stark contrast with dry bush and clear skies.

The 20 000ha Reserve lies between the rural villages of Marken and Baltimore in the Limpopo Province and is not much further than a three hour drive from Johannesburg and less than two hours from Polokwane.  Proud to be part of the malaria-free Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, Shelanti is privately owned and managed by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated people whose first qualification is their true love of the bush.

The lodge offers the option of both self-catered and fully-catered (dinner, bed and breakfast) accommodation where a weary traveller can put their feet up and relax, watch the clouds pass or read a book quietly. From the Lodge a number of activities can be arranged for those who are more adventurous. Shelanti is a true ecological paradise for those who can appreciate and respect the African bush at its very best.

Self-catered Chalets: Our self-catered Chalets are ideal for that weekend break-away. Each of the five, two bedroom units can house a maximum of five persons. The Chalets are fully equipped with two bathrooms, a small kitchen and an outdoor dining area. Further we do supply freestanding braaiers for those who prefer outdoor cooking! Wood bundles are available, and can be purchased from the Lodge.

For guests that are interested, reservations can be made at our kitchen with the option of dining at the lodge or the chalet itself.

Guesthouse: The Shelanti Guesthouse is a comfortable farmstead that has been converted into a fully catered guesthouse where we offer dinner, bed and breakfast. The house contains six bedrooms, each with its own coffee/tea facilities, together with a comfortable lounge area where guests can relax between the day’s activities.

The six bedrooms are as follows:

  • BIG 5: A king-size bed and en suite bathroom
  • BUTTERFLY: 2 single beds with en suite bathroom
  • WARRIORS and FEATHERS: With 2 single beds and double bed respectively sharing a bathroom
  • HUNTERS REST: Four single beds and en suite bathroom
  • PAWS: 1 king-size bed and en suite bathroom

Buffelfontein House (Self-Catering):

For our guests that prefer more private accommodation, come and enjoy the bushveld and wildlife at Buffelfontein House; a luxurious self-catering farmhouse complete with its own kitchen, dining room and private lapa. The house can accommodate up to twelve people and is a very popular booking for family vacations and perfect for a group of friends interested in visiting the African bush. The house is situated approximately 5km from the main lodge, on the open farm, Big Five, area. An electric fence surrounds the camp which allows for relaxed living, but does not hinder the view of the nearby waterhole where the local wildlife comes to drink.

Luxury Tent Camp :

Sophisticated ‘camping’ at its best!!! Located within the heart of Shelanti Game Reserve, a stay at our luxury tented camp offers an intimate safari experience that will be etched in your memories forever. The tented camp consists of just 15 secluded, luxury tents. Each luxurious tent features its own en-suite bathroom and a deck overlooking the African bush, connected by pathways with the main Camp. These elegant and spacious tents, with permanent bases, are meant for relaxation, and sleep two (2) people in comfortable king sized beds. We also offer three (3) family tents with two (2) king sized beds and a sleeper couch in the lounge. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom equipped with a bath, shower, basin and toilet.

Vulture Restaurant:

On every Wednesday and Saturday food is dropped off at our local Vulture Restaurant, where hundreds of these endangered birds swoop down to take part in regular feeding frenzies. This feeding site not only provides us the opportunity to take our guests on a unique experience, but also to collect information on the different species which could contribute to their conservation. Common visitors include the White-Backed Vulture, the Cape Griffon Vulture and the Lappet-Faced Vulture, but some scarcer sightings have been recorded such as the Hooded Vulture and even the Ruppell’s Vulture. Patience is rewarded!

Game Drives :

Game Drives are conducted twice daily in open vehicles. Morning drives give you the opportunity to wake up early and enjoy the cool, fresh part of the day. Animals are just starting to get active and this is the perfect time to get out the vehicle and identify some tracks you may want to follow. Our game drives are popular for a reason… Encountering the elephants remain a special occasion while the mysterious hippo can often be found wallowing in a cool pool of water. If that is not enough feast your eyes on the activities of the blue wildebeest, warthog and baboon whose antics will keep you entertained for hours. At night, sharp-eyed visitors might encounter leopards, spotted and brown hyenas or even bat-eared foxes. The best part about the night drive is reconnecting with life and spending time looking at the endless Milky Way. Over fifty mammal species can be found on Shelanti, some easy to find and other not.

Pride Rock:

Pride Rock is the name of one of our cliff-side viewpoints. Here guests can delight in a dinner prepared by our local chef while enjoying the breath-taking view of a piece of Shelanti’s bushveld.  The Pride Rock dinner can be booked as a single activity or be combined with a Game Drive after which the dinner will follow.

Game Drives times may vary through the year as we aim to arrive at Pride Rock before sunset to catch the amazing view!  Other activities, such as weddings or picknics, can also be hosted at Pride Rock.

Wild Fig Spa:

Amidst the tranquil surroundings of Shelanti Game Reserve you will find the beautiful Wild Fig Day Spa. Your oasis to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Wild Fig Day Spa offers a wide range of specialised treatments that have been specifically chosen to revitalise your body, rejuvenate your mind and invigorate your soul. From the moment you walk through the doors until the end of your treatment of choice, you will be pampered by highly trained and experienced beauty therapists. Our high level of service and attention to detail is captured in all our treatments which include: facials, massages, manicures and pedicures. The spa’s facilities include a flotation pool, steam room and a jacuzzi.

Wine Cellar :

Shelanti Game Reserve boasts a magnificent wine cellar, stocked with the finest wines. The bottles are stored in a carefully temperature-controlled and humidified environment.

The Wine Cellar can also easily be transformed into an intimate conference room for 20 delegates.

Helicopter Flips:

Shelanti offers our guests the opportunity to experience the bushveld and its wildlife from a different view! With our Robinson R44 Helicopter we can take up to three guests, per flight, who can enjoy the unique opportunity of a flight over the whole of Shelanti.
