Wayside Inn was the original coach house to the George/Knysna postal route back in the 1800's. It was where the horses and poste carts where exchanged on route from Knysna to George. A person could catch a ride in the poste cart for the price of 2 shillings and sixpence. It has been recently restored to a high standard.
The upstairs loft (old threshing barn) is now a luxury open plan bathroom/bedroom featuring a slipper bath positioned next to a window, with the most amazing views of the mountains. Downstairs the remaining bedrooms are all ensuite. The spacious living area is all open plan, with a cosy inviting kitchen with woodburning stove. The kitchen also features large range gas/electric stove. With farmhouse table and chairs in the kitchen.
Every window has an amazing view. Either of pastoral farmland, mountains or gardens and paddocks. The house also offers a generous wraparound stoep. The double storey home adjacent to the property was the original Wayside Inn in 1800"s.. The establishment was run by Jonas Stevens and his wife Ann. They came to South Africa on the ship Sheridian in the 1820s.
The Wayside Inn is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many hiking trails and forest walks as well as cycle trails. It is near Garden Route Trail Park (cyclists).
